Here is a fairly close look at the latest tablet offering from Chinese manufacturer BMorn, the BM-999 which is a 8.9 inch device running Google's Android version 2.1. In terms of form factor the BM-999 sports a rectangular design similar to most 7 inch tablets dispite its larger screen size. For a retail price of just under a hundred bucks, could this BMorn offering have the Android we've edge been looking for?
Also known in China as Blue Morning, Bmorn have been manufacturing Ebooks, portable video players and GPS units for many year now. Like of boat loads of other manufacturers they've begun ramping their efforts in the post-iPad tablet sphere, offering Android-based products that in China are often referred to as MIDs, better known to us as ShanzhaiPads.

The BM-999 is powered by a Rockchip RK2818 ARM 9 level system-on-chip that is clocked 660MHz, a chip that we've seen plenty of in the last year or so. The chip professes to have the multimedia chops to handle almost all kinds of video formats and codecs including content at 720p and 1080p.
In terms of I/O ports we're pleased to report that the BM-999 features a HDMI port as well as the more common audio, USB, and MicroSD card support. Interestingly we can also see a TV-out port - useful no doubt for folks who have yet to jump on the HDTV bandwagon, which I suspect includes many Mainlanders.

There appear to be plenty of buttons along the top as well as one the side of the tablet. How they are mapped to Android's navigation remains a mystery.

Speakers are integrated in to the chassis as you can see. There's also a handy stand on the back - possibly a legacy from the company's digital frame era, but still a useful addition when you want to sit back and enjoy some video content.

Here you can see just how thin the device is.

The basic package includes a remote control. The second time we've seen this. You also get a warranty card, user manual, headphones and a Micro to regular USB cable.

For an extra 30 dollars you can also get your BM-999 kitted out for use on the road with this kit that BMorn offer which includes a bunch of extra cables, cigarette lighter adapter and stand so it can be mounted on the dash or windscreen.

Overall the reviewer reckons that the BM-999 is ok with most 720p format videos, but that it does tend to stutter and lag on 1080p res content. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, and besides 1080p on a sub-200 buck device is no deal breaker.
Overall the BM-999 looks to a be welcome addition to the swarm of tablet devices now coming out of China. With pricing at or around the 200 dollar mark, it should be real crowd pleaser.
