The latest rumours online are suggesting that Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) will be released to developers as early as next week. The rumours were reported by Android website , The Android Police.
The new version is expected to be aimed at internet tablets which are currently the "next big thing". Google have already stated that previous versions of their mobile operating system weren't great for the larger internet tablets and this version will aim to correct this.
Google are also expected to remove the need for manufacturer customisations with Android 3.0. This is something that normally annoys consumers because it means mobiles are often delayed while manufacturers add their branding.
Other rumours circulating have suggested that Android 3.0 will also bring video calling to the platform, which will compete with Apple's Facetime. It's thought that Google Talk Video will be integrated into smartphones and tablets as standard.
