Mobile phone manufacturer Nokia will import the new N8 series that targets the growing smart phone segment in India.
“For now we will source it from our manufacturing facilities outside India,” a Nokia executive said.
He indicated that when the numbers grew, the company might contemplate manufacturing them locally. The smart phone market in India is put at 22 lakh as against 30 crore globally.
Meanwhile, actor Raima Sen unveiled the new series phones for the Andhra Pradesh market.
Showcasing the phone at a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Zairus Master, Head of Solutions Marketing, said the users could do whatever they did with their computers.
“It is a mobile home theatre system. They can connect their phones with their television sets. With a 12 mega pixel camera, one can take high quality pictures,” he said.
It also allows one to use a pen drive, download, and share files. “It supports several applications, including PowerPoint presentations,” he said.
The N8 would, initially, be sold at Nokia Priority Stores, at Rs 26,259. They are also available on the Easy EMI scheme. “One can shoot HD (high definition) quality videos using the phone, Mr T. S. Sridhar, Regional General Manager (South) of Nokia India, said.
He, however, refused to comment on the sales target for the new phone.
