Samsung and U.S Cellular are introducing a new mobile handset the Samsung Mesmerize i500 touchscreen phone on October 27th. It is the latest Galaxy S series addition.
It will be priced at $199 after an $80 mail-in rebate and will be available at all the U.S. Cellular retail stores and on its official website U.S.cellular.com.
The Samsung Mesmerize is the third of five smartphones that U.S. Cellular is launching this year and runs on the Android platform. The company will begin selling the other two devices i.e. The LG Apex and The LG Optimus in November and December respectively.
The Samsung i500 has got the ultimate Ultra-slim design and it has got a 4.0” Super AMOLED screen that offers a blaze free and sharper screen output. Its screen also uses up less power as equated with conventional screens..
The device is powered by a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor which makes it capable of producing high-quality multimedia content and 3D graphics and a virtual QWERTY keyboard which comes with a Swype gesture input application (users can input text by slithering their finger over the keyboard rather tapping keys).
It operates on Android 2.1 that offers access to Google Mobile Services comprising of Google Search, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps and YouTube.
Its other features include 5.0 MP digital camera that records video in HD, 4x digital zoom, LED Flash and auto focus function. The Samsung phone can provide 420 minutes of talktime and can last for 312 hours in standby mode on a single battery charge.
It has got MP3 player, six-axis motion sensing for gaming, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, USB 2.0, fitted with a 3.5mm headphone jack and expandable memory up to 32GB.
The Samsung Mesmerize is pre-installed with U.S. Cellular apps like Tone Room Deluxe, My Contacts Backup, CityID and Your Navigator Deluxe.
It also supports HTML Browsing and Outlook Sync Capability. It runs on Android 2.1 and can be upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo later on this year. Users can then have access to Samsung’s Media Hub. Samsung’s All Share application permits users to send video, audio and pictures from their Mesmerize to other DLNA-enabled devices, such as computers and TVs.
The Mesmerize is the fifth device in the Samsung Galaxy S line, existing devices being the Samsung Fascinate from Verizon Wireless; the Samsung Captivate from AT&T; the Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint; and the Vibrant from T-Mobile.
More than 5 million units have been sold since the launching of these devices past summer.
