Samsung on slide as HTC and Nokia look set for strong Christmas

HTC Desire HD front view/HTCThe HTC Desire HD and HTC Wildfire remain the top two most popular phones with MobileShop.com customers.
And for those writing off Nokia and BlackBerry it may be worth noting their smartphones are also in demand with customers.
The Nokia N8 in black is in third place and BlackBerry has three phones in the top ten with the 8520 Curve, Torch and Bold 9700.
While the iPhone 4 remains a constant in the top five, the Samsung Galaxy S is on the slide and is now lingering in sixth place, indicating Samsung need to bring out an updated version of the Galaxy S and a solid Android mid-ranger if it’s to be amongst the top sellers in the run up to the festive season.
Check out the top 10 most popular phones on MobileShop.com in full – these are the phones customers have clicked on most
1. HTC Desire HD: The smartphone heavyweight stays in pole position for the second week running – showing that slightly more expensive tariffs don’t people off if the specs justify it. With an Android 2.2 operating system, big 4.3-inch touchscreen, eight-megapixel high definition camera and 1GHz processor it could be argued the specs do just that. The HTC Desire HD is available on all networks, except Virgin, and on some competitive tariffs that are as low as £25-a-month.

HTC Wildfire different colours /HTC2. HTC Wildfire: It may not be quite at the other end of the spectrum but it is certainly a smaller, more affordable alternative to the HTC Desire HD – the HTC Wildfire has a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1 operating system, HTC Sense user interface and a five-megapixel camera. All the networks are selling the phone but Three has the possibly the best deal at the moment with a £13-a-month Pay Monthly tariff.

3. Nokia N8 black: Yet another non-mover, Nokia’s flagship smartphone, the N8 Nokia has an excellent 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and HD video camera. It also runs on Symbian^3 and has the Ovi Store for apps, music and sat nav services.

4. iPhone 4 16GB: It’s up one place this week and has been in the top five for many weeks now. It seems that despite any issues with the antenna and glass, the iPhone 4 remains a popular choice with customers. Maybe the phone’s slim and sleek design, iOS 4.1 operating system, video calling, 1GHz processor and multi-media functionality has something to do with it. The iPhone 4 is available for free on a range of £45-a-month Pay Monthly deals with Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone.

5. BlackBerry 8520 Curve: The 8520 Curve proves that BlackBerry is still a winner with smartphone customers. The phone has a classic BlackBerry design and QWERTY keyboard and is available on lots of great-value deals at the moment. All the networks apart from Three offer the 8520 Curve for free on tariffs as low as £15-a-month.
