Oh this? It’s the Sony Ericsson Anzu, Sony Ericsson’s follow up to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It’s been comprehensively leaked, but there’s some bad news in betwixt all the mammoth specs: it won’t be running the latest version of Android upon release next year. Read on for the details.
Eldar Murtazin, legendary Russina phone leaker and reviewer, has got his hands on a Sony Ericsson Anzu, or Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 as he hints it may be called at launch, and well, he doesn’t have hugely positive things to say about it.

While the 4.3-inch 854×480 resolution screen and HDMI output to hook up to a big screen TV, plus 720p video recording and 800MHz CPU (The same one as found in the nippy HTC Desire Z) sound welcome enough, if what Murtazin says is true – and it usually is – the Sony Ericsson Anzu will once again ship without the latest version of Android.
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is expected to roll out in the next few weeks to coincide with the Samsung Nexus S smartphone, but the Sony Ericsson Anzu is reportedly out in 2011, and will run Android 2.2 initially, and “will probably be updated to 2.3 Gingerbread at some point in the late summer of 2011.”
If true, that means Sony Ericsson will be left in the dust (again) while Samsung and HTC manage to keep up with Google’s relentless Android release cycle. Or as Murtazin says, “Its price tag will not be justified with its features in any possible way and the software disadvantages will only disappoint the buyers of the device.”
We’ll be the judge of that when we get a Sony Ericsson Anzu shop ready review unit to test and tell you, but expect many more leaks before launch.
