Sony Ericsson Xperia arc gets official, Android 2.3 onboard

Sony Ericsson kicked off CES 2011 by announcing the hotly-anticipated Xperia arc, the first of a new generation of Xperia phones to be revealed in 2011.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, previous leaked as the Anzu and XPERIA X12, is the first mobile phone to feature the company’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine. In a similar way to Nokia‘s ClearBlack technology, this promises to deliver sharper images and more vibrant colours to the handset’s 4.2 inch “Reality Display”.
Most excitingly, the smartphone will land packing Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which will bring a refined UI, NFC support and enhanced gaming, which is sure to look impressive on the arc’s whopping screen.
Despite measuring in at just 8.7mm at its thinnest point, the Xperia arc manages to pack even more impressive specs under its belt. These include:
  • 1GHz Qualcomm processor
  • 8.1 megapixel camera with an Exmor R sensor
  • 720p HD video capture
  • USB and HDMI ports
  • HSDPA and WiFi connectivity
  • 512MB of internal storage, expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 1500mAh battery
Sony Ericsson have announced that the handset will be available globally from Q1 2011, and will be available in both Misty Blue and Misty Silver. No word on it’s pricing just yet, although rumours claim it will feature a similar price tag to the XPERIA X10.
