radio shack and t-mobile offer t-mobile g2

Radio Shack and T-Mobile offer T-Mobile G2 3 days early

Last month, we reported that T-Mobile was set to release the Android-powered T-Mobile G2 in October and that Best Buy and Radio Shack would carry the phone. Within days of Best Buy announcing they would offer the phone for $199 with a 2-year agreement, Radio Shack tweeted that they would carry the phone priced at only $149.99 thanks to an instant rebate. It seems that Radio Shack wasn’t just happy with undercutting Best Buy on price, though.
Engadget reports that Radio Shack decided to undercut Best Buy again by making the phone available three days earlier than T-Mobile’s announced launch date of October 6. A memo, clearly intended for Radio Shack employees, confirmed the early launch date and stated that in addition to the $149.99 price for new 2-year agreements the phone would also be available for $199 for two-year upgrades, FlexPay and add-a-line activations.
The move by Radio Shack seems to have caused T-Mobile to rethink the G2 launch date all together since a report by TFTS states that some participating T-Mobile retailers have also begun to sell the G2 over the weekend. Indications are that West Coast stores are the first ones to offer the G2 since they have already received stock. As other stores across the nation receive stock one could assume they would begin to offer the G2 to the public in lieu of the original October 6th date.
Two of the most attractive features of the G2 include the Android 2.2 operating system and that it runs off of T-Mobile’s 4G network. Other specs include:
  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ MSM7230 mobile processor
  • Slide-out QWERTY keyboard, unique Z-hinge design
  • 3.7” S-TFT WVGA display
  • 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory
  • 8-GB SD card, expandable to 32 GB
  • 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus
  • 720p HD video capture
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR + A2DP stereo
  • 3.5-mm stereo headset
  • 4.68” (L) x 2.38” (W) x .58” (H)
  • Weight: 6.5 ounces
  • Included battery: 1300 mAh Li-ion
  • Talk time: up to 6.5 hours
  • Standby time: up to 17.5 days
